Sunday: A concert that involves several classical music pieces performed by renowned cellists will be held at the IBK Chamber Hall of the Seoul Arts Center. The group is to be led by master cellist Lee Sook-jeong. The concert will include classics by legendary composers such as Beethoven, Chopin and Popper.
The concert starts at 5 p.m.

SCHOOL CLASSICS MASQUERADE BALL

Aug. 15: The School Classics started its series of concerts back in 2001. This time, they are bringing out the concept of "French Royalty and the Versailles Palace" and will revisit 17th-century France. The concert will be all about dancing and enjoying the Baroque style of music. Traditional French dance routines such as the "Minuet" and "Gavotte" will be shown and taught to the spectators.
The concert starts at 5 p.m.
Ticket prices range from 15,000 won to 25,000 won.

HWAUM CHAMBER ORCHESTRA SHOSTAKOVICH SERIES 1

Aug. 18: The Hwaum Chamber Orchestra was established in 1996 and is known for its lively performances. The orchestra is to perform its 37th concert at the Seoul Arts Center, and in addition to playing several of Shostakovich's compositions, like "Two Pieces for String Octet" and the "Chamber Symphony", the group will also perform Mozart's "Serenade" and their own music such as the "Hwaum Project".
The concert will start at 7 p.m.
Ticket prices range from 20,000 won to 50,000 won.

2012 PARK CONCERT - PIANO
Olympic Park, 88 Lawn Field Stage
Sept. 8: Following the success of shows in 2010 and 2011, Park Concert will present another elite lineup for this year's installment. Japan's Yuhki Kuramoto, Canada's Steve Barakatt and Korea's Yiruma have collaborated to present "Piano Paradiso" and the audience will be able to listen to Kuramoto's "Lake Louise" and "R omance"; Barakatt's "Rainbow Bridge" and "The Whistler's Song"; and Yiruma's "When the Love Falls" featured in the megahit drama "Winter Sonata".
Adriel Kim will conduct the Ditto Orchestra.
The concert starts at 7 p.m.
Tickets range from 50,000 to 80,000 won. A family seating ticket (table for four) is 150,000 won and picnic seating is 20,000 won.

The National Theater of Korea
To Aug. 25: "Jack the Ripper" has been widely acclaimed since its premiere in 2009.
Set in late 19th-century London, it is the story of Daniel, a passionate doctor driven to catastrophe after a suspicious deal with Jack, a serial killer.
The plot of the musical centers around the murderers and their victims alongside their secretive stories about ill-fated death and love.
Performances are at 4 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday and 3 and 7 p.m. on Sunday. There are no performances on Monday.
Tickets for the musical on Tuesday through Friday afternoons are 40,000 to 100,000 won. Tickets for Friday evenings to Sunday and holidays are 50,000 to 110,000 won.

LA BOHEME
Yonsei University Amphitheater
Aug. 28 and 30; Sept. 1 and 2: Puccini's classic opera "La Boheme" is coming to the outdoor stage of Yonsei University. The work has become part of the standard Italian opera repertoire and is the fourth most frequently performed opera in the world.
The story centers on young Bohemians in the Latin Quarter of Paris in the 1840s. The opera will be conducted by maestro Chung Myung-whun of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and directed by Nadine Duffaut.
The opera will be performed on Aug. 28 and 30 at 8 p.m. and Sept. 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets range from 30,000 to 570,000 won.

To Aug. 31: "Wicked" is a musical based on Gregory Maguire's best-selling novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West". The Broadway production has been nominated for 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Orchestrations, Best Costume Design and Best Scene Design.
Performances are 8 p.m. weekdays; 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays; and 1 and 7 p.m. Sundays and holidays.

To Sept. 4: Based on the 1973 French play by Jean Poiret, the Tony Award-winning play "La Cage aux Folles" comes to Korea. The story focuses on a gay couple - Georges, the manager of a Saint-Tropez nightclub with drag entertainment, and Albin, his star attraction.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 3 p.m. Wednesday; 3 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; and 2 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. There are no Monday performances.

To Sept. 22: The modern Korean folk music concert mixes traditional music with modern melodic sounds through the use of the gayageum (long zither of 12 strings) and janggu (double-headed hourglass-shaped drum generally played with one stick and one hand) along with an electric piano and a modern drum set.
Concerts are at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday.
