34 Korean Films at Chennai Women's Film Fest

The 2nd Women's Film Festival in Channai, India has invited 34 Korean short and feature length films to screen during its 8-day event March 1 - 8, 2009. Among them are Lim Soon-rye's 2008 sports hit "Forever the Moment", her cult-musical-comedy "Waikiki Brothers" (2001) and her 48-minute documentary "Keeping the Vision Alive : Women in Korean Filmmaking" (2001).

Other films in the program include the independent feature "Inner Circle Line" (2006) by Jo Eun-hee and LEE Hye-ran's documentary reconstruction of female workers' revolt at a textile factory, titled "We Are Not Defeated" (2005). KIM Il-ran's 2008 feature, "3x FTM" looks at the identity struggles of 3 women who undergo transgender operations.

A number of shorts and features on the theme of Korean feminist video activism will be screened, while other films explore issues of lesbianism and bisexuality in Korean society including "Lesbian Fighter", "After All We Are Lesbians", and "Lesbian Censorship in Schools".

The festival is organized by Chennai's InKo Centre in association with the International Women's Film Festival in Seoul, the National Film Development Corporation Ltd.,
the National Film Archive of India, the Directorate of Film Festivals - Govt. of India and Sathyam Cinemas.
