48-hour film project in Seoul

By John Redmond

The 48-Hour Film Project ― Seoul (48HFP Seoul) is being staged again this year, and as the Oct. 9 deadline for registration approaches, there are only a few spaces left for teams to register. The 48HFP Seoul invites filmmakers from around the world to produce a complete short movie in just two days. This year the dates are Oct. 19 to 21.

Seoul organizers are pleased with the response they have received so far from both the Korean and foreign community participating in information sessions and registering early but urge interested members to get their teams registered before there are no more spaces. The regular registration closing date is Oct. 9 however contestants can register until Oct. 19.

Regular registration fees are 200,000 won per team until Oct. 9 and 250,000 won thereafter.

Aspiring and current filmmakers, directors, producers, photographers, writers, actors, make-up artists, costume designers, stylists, set builders and sound engineers come together to create a film in just 48 hours which really puts creativity and teamwork to the test.

Information sessions are held every Thursday at 8 p.m. at Holly's Coffee, Gasan Digital Complex Station, exit 4 (Lines 1 and 7) which also provides an opportunity for people to meet other team members or join a group.

Participants in the 48HFP Seoul stand to win big prizes at the international competition ― the winning team will have their film showcased as part of the Cannes Film Festival's Short Film Corner in 2013, and receive a cash prize of $5000, among others. All films will be shown at the Megabox Theater in Dongdaemun on Nov. 1 2012.

The Seoul City best film award winners will see their film screened at an award weekend joining "Best of City" filmmakers from around the world. The winning team will also receive a cash prize of 5 million won from Megabox, Movie Magic Screenwriter Software 6 ― the premier screenwriting software and the choice of Hollywood valued at $250, and a trophy. Second and third place will receive Sony Vegas Pro 64bit professional HD video, audio and Blu-ray Disc creation software. Prizes are awarded on a per team basis and the team leader may select who will be the actual recipient of the prizes as it may apply.

Awards will also be given for best writing, cinematography, editing, actor, music score, sound design, special effects, use of genre, and use of character. All participants in the 48HFP Seoul will receive a 3M natural view screen protector for the iPhone4 and 4s and a Hansung fishcake bar. More sponsor give aways should be available by the time of the event.

48-HFP Seoul is sponsored by the Korean Film Council, Megabox, Studio24, Sony Korea, 3M Korea, and Hansung Enterprise. Interested sponsors and participants may find more information on the 48HFP Seoul website at www.48hourfilm.co.kr.
