Director Park Ki Hyung (Whispering Corridors) explores the supernatural world in Acacia, a 2003 horror film about a couple whose lives are turned upside down after adopting a child with a dark past. Selected as the closing film of the 8th Pusan International Film Festival, this supernatural thriller spooks with its eerie atmosphere and gradual suspense buildup. Acacia sees iconic 90s actress Shim Hye Jin returning to the silver screen nearly five years after the 1997 acclaimed film Green Fish.

Almost ten years into their marriage, Mi Sook (Shim Hye Jin) and her husband (Kim Jin Geun, The Scarlet Letter) have yet to conceive a child. Deciding to adopt, they set out to an orphanage where Mi Sook becomes mesmerized by an illustration of a tree drawn by a six-year-old boy named Jin Sung. The couple decide to adopt Jin Sung, but there's something odd about the introverted child who spends much of his time circling around the acacia tree in their backyard. One stormy night Jin Sung disappears, and soon after the acacia tree suddenly bursts into bloom. But it is only a foreboding sign of the chain of frightful occurrences to come. .

오래된 아카시아 나무 한 그루가 인상적인 전원주택에서 미숙은 산부인과 의사인 남편 도일과 자상한 시아버지와 함께 행복한 생활을 하고 있다. 자신의 꿈이었던 직물공예 작업을 하며 일상의 즐거움을 누리던 그녀에게도 고민은 있었다. 결혼 생활도 어느덧 10년이 다 되어 가는데 그토록
기다리던 아이 소식이 없었기 때문이다. 남편인 도일은 미숙에게 더 늦기 전에 입양을 제안하고 미숙은 결국, 고민 끝에 아이를 입양하기로 결정한다. 입양문제로 찾아간 보육원에서 한 아이가 그린 묘한 나무 그림에 매료된 미숙은 그 그림을 그린 진성이란 6살 난 남자아이를 입양하게 된다.

유난히 말이 없고 내성적인 진성은 가족들과 어울리지 못하고 매일 정원에 있는 아카시아 나무 곁에서만 맴돈다. 진성은 혼자 나무그림만 그리고 그 그림 위에 죽은 벌레를 붙여놓는 등 이해할 수 없는 돌출행동들로 미숙의 애를 태운다. 미숙과 도일은 그런 진성을 친자식처럼 사랑하려 하지만 날이 갈수록 진성의 어두운 성격과 이상한 행동은 도를 넘어선다. 그러던 어느 날, 천둥, 번개가 심하게 치던 날밤, 진성이 갑자기 사라지게 되고... 그 이후로 바짝 메말라 잎도 하나 없던 아카시아 나무에는 꽃이 피기 시작한다. 단란했던 가족들에게 밀려오는 끔찍한 일들은 걷잡을 수 없이 빠른 속도로 그들을 파멸로 몰고 가는데...
