Actor Gang Dong-won Receives Favorable Response from Japanese News Media

Japanese news media outlets have given a favorable response to actor Gang Dong-won, calling him a new hallyu star who will succeed to the level of top star Bae Yong-joon.

The Japanese daily Sankei Sports said on May 2, "Gang Dong-won successfully wrapped up his fan meeting held in Japan on May 1 in celebration of the publication of his photo album. Kang is one of the top four new-generation hallyu stars alongside Lee Dong-gun, who made headlines for his role in the TV drama 'Lovers in Paris'; Zo In-sung, who has drawn a group of enthusiastic fans for his role in the TV drama 'Something Happened in Bali'; and Ji Sung, who became familiar to fans for his role in the TV drama All In".

The Japanese daily also said, "Kang debuted in 2003 and won attention for his role in the TV drama 'Something About 1%'. He also won high popularity in Japan for his acting in the film entitled 'Temptation of Wolves'."

The daily added, "Currently, the film 'Duelist' starring Gang Dong-won is gaining popularity in Japan. His photo album has sold a total of 13,000 copies so far. In Korea, Kang tops all polls in the question category 'Which actor would you like to have as your boyfriend?' surpassing all top Korean stars including Bae Yong-joon".

The event held in Tokyo on May 1 in celebration of the publication of Kang's photo album was attended by about 4,000 Japanese fans, demonstrating the high popularity Kang is enjoying in Japan.
