Actor Jeong Doubles His Role in `The Twins'

Actor Jung Joon-ho has given impressive performances in playing good and evil characters, such as an ordinary and simple hearted man in "Marrying the Mafia" and a ruthless villain in "Another Public Enemy". Now he wants to show both sides at the same time.
In the upcoming film "The Twins (Yokjone Myongsu)", Jeong plays a double role as identical twin characters with totally different personalities.
"As an actor, I really wanted to challenge myself to play a double role to develop my acting skills and career", Jeong said Monday during a news conference after the preview screening of "The Twins".
"When I read the script, I really liked the story and wanted to star in the film. So I begged the director to choose me, but I should've asked him to double my payment as well since I played two characters", Jung said jokingly.
Directed by Park Heung-shik, the film revolves around identical twin brothers Park Myong-su and Hyon-su, who happen to be totally different in everything except in their appearance.
Myong-su is not well-educated but has a warm heart and always tries to help people in need while Hyon-su is selfish and ruthless. Myong-su is always forced to sacrifice himself for his twin brother, and he goes to an army camp and is jailed on behalf of his evil brother.
To play the identical twins, Jung watched films in which other actors play double roles to study how they create differences in the way they talk, behave and think between the characters.
He learned from seasoned actors, such as Jeon Do-yeon, who plays a mother and daughter in "My Mother, the Mermaid" and Park Shin-yang, who plays identical twins from "The Big Swindle", Jung said.
And Jeong tried to maximize the nature of good and bad coexisting inside himself to present the distinguished personalities of each character, Jung added.
"Although I think I could have done a better job, I am generally happy with my acting. Since I tried to focus more on the character of Myong-su, I think Hyon-su's personality is not as well expressed as I intended", Jung said.
Although he had a chance to play different roles through the film, he still has many characters he would like to try to play. But as he finds himself to be more of a lighthearted and cheerful person, he prefers films that make people laugh.
The film "The Twins" will be released in local theaters on April 15.
