Love is a fickle thing in the entertainment industry, as ex-lovers Kim Hye-seon and Jang Hyeon-soo have recently discovered.
Kim's representative announced on Jan. 9 that the 42-year-old actress and her 52-year-old former beau called it quits sometime late last year after having spent three years together.
"The two were like soul mates, and although they have gone their separate ways, Kim and Jang have vowed to remain good friends", a representative of Run Entertainment said.
The twice-divorced starlet's agency added that although the couple was serious about one another, they never had plans to marry and decided to make the announcement public before speculation about their wedding spiraled out of control.
When the two began dating, local media outlets said that the two were careful to not rush into marriage as both of them have been divorced.
Rumors about a wedding began surfacing following the release in November of the controversial raunchy movie "Perfect Partner" (2011) in which Kim starred.
Although the couple was no longer together at the film's premiere, Kim held back from making the announcement as she didn't want the controversy to overshadow her ex's career.
Fans were quick to voice their regret at the star couple's break-up with encouraging comments for the actress online such as, "I really hoped that Kim had met her match" and "It's so sad, but it'll be okay".
