Actress Nam Yoon-jeong was found dead in her home Wednesday in an apparent suicide, police said. She was 58.
According to Yeongdeungpo Police Station, Nam left a pessimistic note about her life. She was found dead in her home in Yeouido by her daughter.
Police suspect Nam hanged herself. She had been having emotional difficulties since the death of her husband last year and had been receiving treatment for depression.
Her husband died in a fire and since then she has reportedly been struggling with his debts.
Although the police are viewing the death as suicide, Nam's family has claimed that it was due to overwork.
Police decided not to conduct an autopsy as the bereaved family opposed the procedure.
Born in 1954, Nam made her acting debut in 1973 and appeared in nearly 30 TV dramas and movies. She usually played the role of a graceful and elegant mother.
Her body is at the St. Mary's Hospital mortuary in Yeouido, Seoul, and the funeral will be held today.
