Animated Films Dominate Film Market

First-run animated films have grabbed the first and third spots on the box-office chart in an off-season niche market.

The animated film "Corpse Bride" directed by Tim Burton topped the box-office chart during the first week of November by attracting 73,500 moviegoers at a total of 40 movie theaters in Seoul on Nov. 5 and 6. The film has attracted 231,200 viewers nationwide as of Nov. 6.

"Beast and the Beauty", the close runner-up, attracted 71,226 viewers at 53 theaters in Seoul over the weekend. It has attracted a total of 866,487 viewers at a total of 232 theaters nationwide for two weeks since its opening.

"Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" has grabbed the third spot on the chart by attracting 55,000 viewers at 53 theaters. The animated film has attracted a total of 196,000 moviegoers at 210 theaters nationwide as of Nov. 6.

"I Love You, Malsoon" - "Mommy, Dearest" directed by Park Heung-sik finished fourth on the chart amid high acclaim from critics. It attracted 42,559 viewers at 45 theaters in Seoul over the weekend. During the first week after its opening, it attracted 216,314 viewers at 214 theaters across the country, failing to meet the expectations of the production company.

"The Loveliest Week in My Life" - "My Lovely Week" ranked fifth on the chart by attracting 34,000 viewers at 38 theaters in Seoul on Nov. 5 and 6. As of Nov. 6, five weeks after its opening, the film has attracted a total of 2.457,000 viewers at 195 theaters nationwide.

"Princess Aurora" ranked sixth on the box-office chart by attracting 26,000 viewers at 47 theaters in Seoul over the weekend. A total of 684,000 viewers have seen the movie at 229 theaters nationwide during the two weeks since its opening.

During the third week since its opening, Sad Movie ranked seventh by attracting 10,000 viewers at 26 theaters in Seoul. As of Nov. 6, it has attracted a total of 1.05 million viewers at 41 theaters across the nation.

Meanwhile, "You are my Sunshine" has attracted 3,079,000 viewers at 35 theaters nationwide as of Nov. 6.
