Animation for theater 'Empress Chung', a joint production animation between North and South Korea, is slated to be released on August 15, a commemoration day of the 60th Anniversary of the Indepdendence Day of Korea in South Korea and North Korea simultaneously.

This is the first time that a joint production animation is released at the same time in South Korea and North Korea.

Animation for theater 'Empress Chung' is a joint production animation that animation maker Nelson Shin made together with his North Korea counterpart.

The second series of 'Dinga' also, a full digital 3D character animation, which is the first joint production animation between North and South Korea, is slated to be opened to the public through Internet for August. In addition, the second series of TV animation 'Pororo, the Little Penguin', another joint production between North and South Korea' will be aired in EBS this winter.

Animation 'Empress Chung' is a winner animation of the special distinction prize at the annecy animation festival 2004. This animation is a sumptuous animated adaptation of korean folktale and narrative musical 'shim chung jeon'.

Empress Chung is the subtle and beautifully crafted fairy story of a hidden empress, whose struggle through life is helped along by her entourage of animal friends. She attempts to sacrifice herself to save her fathers' eyesight, yet re-emerges from her submarine palace to find her wishes fulfilled.

The persons concerned said: "North Korea ani's level and latent energy is great, considering that North Korea had done a number of subcontract works of France and Italy etc. from 1985 in the field of animation".

These persons concerned introduced that North Korea's real production ability seems to be not inferior to South Korea level, adding that particularly, North Korea's interest in 3D animation is considerable.
