The subtitles in the drama "Answer to 1997" is an issue.
"Answer to 1997" is based on reminisce the pleasant memories of the 1990s. The subtitles helps the viewers understand the Busan dialect and the culture for those who don't understand.
The subtitles help to understand certain terms like 'Ahn-seung wife'= Ahn Seung-ho's wife (H.O.T Tony's real name) and Poccari – Tony Ahn's nickname for his car and many others which would be tough to understand if you weren't a fanatic.
The standard language subtitles help to understand the difficult Busan dialect. The teacher tells Seong-jae (Lee Si-eon) to introduce the school to Hak-chan (Eun Ji-won) but to give him a hard time, he says something in the Busan dialect which actually means, "I am quite confused because I am on duty on a day like this so I will show you around another time". Eun Ji-won's reaction to the actual Busan dialect was worth watching.
The addictive Busan dialect is making viewers get addicted. Actually from this region, Jung Eun-ji and Hoya, Seo In-guk from Ulsan and others Seong Dong-il, Lee Il-hwa, Song Jong-ho and others are adding to the fun of the drama.
"Answer to 1997" can be seen every Tuesday at 11PM.
