And now it's time for the arts and culture update with our Michelle Kim. From art exhibitions to the Opera Gala that will be showing today, Michelle has all of these exciting events ready for us today.

Hello Michelle

[Reporter : ] Hello Conn-young

So what do you have for us today ?

[Reporter : ] When you think of paintings, you think of a canvas and drawings or pictures painted with watercolor paint. However in Cheongju, there is an exhibition held at the Korean Craft Museum that portrays paintings painted on silk. Here are the details on this one.

The audience are mesmerized by the lotus-themed artworks.

It seems like they are drawn on rice paper, or another kind of paper of that sort, but actually, it is drawn on silk.

The materials used to paint the drawings are not watercolor paint, but natural dye.

The dye that is immersed into the silk fabric looks glamorous and almost magical when made into an artwork.

These artworks are all made by artist Park Jung-woo, who has studied and produced dye paintings for thirty years.

[Interview : Park Jung-woo, Artist] "When you draw on silk, the ink tends to run so I use paraffin, to stop the dye from spreading".

The silk scarf he made with dye looks as if it was manufactured in a factory.

With the addition of sewing, the dye paintings also have a three-dimensional effect, which creates a fantastic work of art.

Even bags and other daily supplies are made by the painters use of dye, needles, and silk.

[Interview : Yoo Myung-Ok, Cheongju Resident] "The details are much more delicate when drawn on silk and it almost feels like the paintings have been drawn with lots of passion and care so I loved it".

This dye paintings exhibition shows off a natural yet glamorous beauty of artworks made from silk and natural dye.

It seems like the mix of silk and dye creates a very unique artwork, that is definitely different from artworks painted or drawn on canvas.

[Reporter : ] You hear that the artists tries to stop the ink from spreading, but I think a little bit of the dye spreading on to different colors on the silk fabric creates this new, magical artwork. And it also shows that you can make artwork with anything.

That is definitely true. I hope we can see more of these unique art exhibitions and now moving on, what else do you have for us[Reporter : ] The Opera Gala will be taking place at the Seoul Arts Center today and tomorrow. For those of you who are interested in Opera, and more specifically Korean Operas, this may be the perfect outing for you. Take a look at this.

The Korea National Opera is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a Creative Opera Gala.

The Gala will be showing for two nights, and will offer a variety of performances of different Korean operas.

Instead of MiMi and Figaro, the opera casts more familiar characters to the Korean public, like Chunhyang and Prince Hodong.

With these Korean characters, the opera will show off the Korean sentiment with various storylines and music.

Park Su-Gil, Director
[Interview : Park Su-Gil, Director] "It's the 50th anniversary since The Korea National Opera was first established and to celebrate this, we picked 12 Korea operas and picked the most beautiful scenes from the 12 different operas to show that Korean operas are also very influential and fantastic".

The Korea National Opera collaborated with famous maestros and opera singers for this celebratory gala.

With the beautiful music surrounding the Opera Theater, along with the powerful voices of the singers, this Gala is sure to shock the opera fans with how strong and powerful Korean Opera is.

[Interview : Park Su-Gil, Director] "It would be great if the audience can recognize and appreciate how the Korean traditional music can be mixed with foreign music styles and techniques to portray the beautiful Korean culture".

This show is sure to captivate the audience with the best scenes from 12 different operas, conveying the history of Korea, as well as the talent and skills Korea has to offer to the Opera scene.
