And now it's time for our daily arts and culture segment with Michelle Kim. In the Thursday edition, she brings us the latest on new and upcoming movies from Korea and abroad.
[Reporter : ] Hello Conn-young
So what movies do you have for us today[Reporter : ] Well, today I'll tell you about three new movies starring three of Korea's most respected vetran actresses -- Jo Min-soo, Yeom Jeong-ah and Lee Mi-yeon. Take a look.
Older actresses don't always get the most exciting roles, but this fall, three veteran actresses are front and center as the stars of some of the season's most highly anticipated films.
Jo Min-soo was a household name in Korea but little known abroad when her star turn in Kim Ki-duk's latest film "Pieta" propelled her into the international spolight. The film won the golden lion award at the Venice International Film Festival and she won rave reviews for her detailed portrayal of maternal love, revenge, and forgiveness.
Actress Yeom Jeong-ah returned to the big screen after a five-year hiatus with her starring role in the film "Spy". The film tells the story of a North Korean spy who spends 10 years living undercover in the South before she is called back into action and her ordinary life gets turned upside down.
Actress Lee Mi-yeon is also returning to film after five years to star in the film "A Company Man" alongside So Ji-sub and Kim Dong-jun. In the film, Lee plays a mother of two who once had a promising career as a singer. To prepare for her role, Lee studied singing and guitar.
These three actresses are so different from one another, but it looks like each of the three films will bring out the best in each actress.
[Reporter : ] I think so, too. Each actress defintely has her strengths.
And I don't think the directors of these films could have given the leading roles to anyone else.
I agree. And now to wrap things up, you have the events bulletin for us
[Reporter : ] Yes I do. Urban Zakapa gives a concert on Saturday, SangSang Madang's indie music concert series continues in Hongdae and Owl City comes to Korea in November. Here are the details.
[Reporter : ed: jenny] This bulletin features 3 events
Indie band Urban Zakapa will perform at Olympic Park's Olympic Hall on September 22nd. The three members all write, compose and produce their own songs and albums, which offer a mellow, romantic sound.
SangSang Madang in Hongdae is running a concert series featuring six indie musicians. The event started August 5th and continues through November. Yoon Young-bae takes the stage on October 7th and The Bird will wrap the series up with a concert on November 4th.
The one-man electronica band Owl City will be making a stop in Korea on its world tour. Owl City is the project of Minnesota singer-songwriter Adam Young, who first gained popularity via his My Space page. The concert will include songs from his latest album, and will take place at Hongdae V-Hall on November 10th.
[Reporter : ] My pleasure
