As we enter the weekend, the Cannes Film Festival is picking up steam as it warms to productions by Latin American and Asian filmmakers.
American director Quentin Tarantino who presides over the jury panel, says this year's Cannes is "heaven".

Spanish director Pedro Almodovar kicked off the festival with 'Bad Education'; a dark tale of priests' sexual abuse of boys, homosexual love and lies.

As the prestigious film festival enters its third day, stars and stargazers alike are in for tons of movie-screenings and extravagant parties.

The 12-day event is also a time for some serious deal making and publicity spectacles for more than 15,000 movie types and journalists.

Amidst the festivities, security has been a key concern.

The French entertainment industry workers had threatened to sabotage the film festival, to protest the cuts to their unemployment benefits, however they backed down in the last minute by agreeing to limit their campaign to public speeches.

International works are in the limelight at the festival, which is paying tribute to its 1960's Marxist masterpieces.

Latin American films are also enjoying heightened interest this year, as are two Korean productions.

The Korean films 'Oldboy' and 'Woman is the Future of Man' were entered into the competition.

Director Park Chan-wook's box-office hit 'Oldboy' was originally set to be introduced in the non-competitive section, but moved up into the main competition upon the recommendations from the authorities. Cannes is also placing extra focus on Korean filmmaker Hong Sang-soo, whose previous works have received good reviews in France.

His latest work, 'Woman is the Future of Man' is about two male friends who share the story of a young woman they love.
