Launched in 1948, the International Federation of Magic Societies (FISM) ranks as the world's largest magic competition. It takes place every three years and features around 140 magicians from 60 countries.

Judges are selected among former winners, based on recommendations from other judges or organizing committee members. They must also be seen to have contributed to boosting the magic industry in their respective countries.

Choi became the first-ever Asian winner of the competition's Originality Award, which is bestowed on magicians who display the most creative magic shows, in the Close-up/Parlor Magic category at the 2009 Championship.

"So far, the majority of the judges have been selected among the world's most famous magicians in their 40s to 60s", said an associate with his agency, adding that Choi's selection proves his status among the cream of the world's magicians.
