Culture, Sports and Tourism Supports Small and Medium-Sized DC Companies with S/W for 3D Production

Road Opens for Production of High Quality 3D Contents including CGs and Animations

Korean companies specializing in the production of digital contents will be able to use costly 3D software licenses for free. Based on a survey conducted on the demands of the contents industry, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is breaking away from the existing infrastructure support providing hardware equipment to promote the project for 'joint-use of 3D production and rendering software' such as Maya and 3ds Max.

This project will introduce to the software industry for the first time the 'use of licenses by the third party'. The Korea Creative Content Agency, the organizer of this project, will purchase the software licenses and rent them to DC companies at no cost.

In the past, there were cases where DC companies would visit a public production center, such as the Nurikkum Square DC Center, run by public organizations to use software products installed at the center. However, it is the first time in Korea for companies to be able to install the software products, jointly used with other companies, in their office.

Contrary to the past practices of using equipments installed outside their office, this project will allow DC companies have their content developers to work on the modeling and rendering of 3D contents in a familiar office environment which will lead to a decrease in production cost and time. Also, by using authentic software products, this project will allow companies to receive technical support and training for their developers from software companies. As a result, DC companies will be able to produce high quality digital content.

The recipients will be given unlimited access of all functions of provided products and may use licenses of 'Maya 2010' or '3ds Max 2010' in units of 10 for 3 months to 1 year.

DC companies which produce 3D films are eligible to apply for support regardless of their genre of work. The Korea Creative Content Agency will support companies which have submitted their application to use these products and have passed the required evaluation to determine whether they are fit for support.
