The prosecution Monday cleared Daesung, a member of K-pop boy band Big Bang, of suspicions involving a motorcyclist's death in a traffic accident on a Han River bridge last May.

The 22-year-old pop star whose full name is Kang Dae-sung has been investigated after he ran over a 30-year-old man lying on the road and then crashed into a parked taxi in front of the victim while he was driving his Audi on Yanghwa Bridge at around 1:30 a.m. on May 31.

The prosecution cited a lack of evidence proving the entertainer was responsible for the motorcyclist's death as for the reason of the acquittal.

"There is no hard evidence to show he (the motorcyclist) was alive before the accident, and it was highly possible for him to have been seriously injured before the accident", a prosecutor said.

Citing the autopsy result and a report by the National Forensic Service, the prosecution concluded that the drunken motorcyclist seemed to have fallen in critical condition after crashing into a street lamp pole in the bridge before he was run over by the singer.

But Daesung was responsible for "careless driving" in failing to spot the victim as he could have avoided running over the man as other three drivers did before him, they said.
