Director Jang Hyeong-yoon to release a collection of his animation DVD in Japan

An animation DVD featuring the works of award-winning director Jang Hyeong-yoon was officially released in Japan on March 6 by Comics Wave Film, Japan's leading animation distribution and production company.

The director is renowned for winning the Second Prize at the Hiroshima International Animation Festival in 2006, one of the four world animation festivals.

The DVD features Jang's four animations, including "Wolf Daddy", " A Letter ", and "Tea Time".

Comics Wave Film has been developing up-and-coming animation directors in Japan, such as Makoto Shinkai. Particularly, the said DVD is Comics Wave Film's first DVD featuring a non-Japanese director. Before the release of the DVD, the company had opened the 'New Animation Creators' in December last year through which it introduced Jang's works. This is the first collection of Korean animations that have been released in Japan, thus attracting much interest in the Korean animation industry.

Having debuted with Perhaps I may be blind in 2002, Jang went on to win various awards with his Wolf Daddy both in Korea and abroad, earning him wide recognition as a next-generation animation director.

Meanwhile, Jang's mid-length animation Ordinary Life of Murim Ilgeom ("Indie Anibox : Selma's Protein Coffee"), which was supported by KOCCA's (CEO: Ko, Seok-Man) animation studio, will also be released on DVD by Comics Wave Film. This animation won an award at the 2007 Seoul International Independent Festival and broadcast on SBS's 'Creative Animation Special' in Korea last October.
