The divorce rate among mature couples hit a record at 29.9 percent in 2015, according to Supreme Court annals published recently.

Since it crossed the 20 percent mark in 2007 for the first time, the divorce rate among elderly couples has consistently increased.

But divorce among couples who had been together for less than four years is decreasing. It was 26.8 percent in 2011 but has fallen to 22.6 percent.

"This suggest that an increasing number of elderly couples want a clean break while young couples in their 20s and 30s have become more prudent about getting married", a Supreme Court official said.

Meanwhile, the divorce rate among childless couples stood at 51.3 percent last year.

Among divorced couples, 25.6 percent had one child, 19.6 percent two children, and 3.5 percent had more than three.

The most common reason for divorce was incompatibility at 46.2 percent, followed by financial issues (11.1 percent), family discord (7.3 percent), and infidelity (7.3 percent).
