Documentary My Barefoot Friend to compete in Amsterdam

Korean director Lee Seong-gyou's "My Barefoot Friend" has been invited to compete in the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), a competition section where 15 feature-length films vie for the Best Documentary prize. The festival runs November 17 – 28 and is centered in Rembrandt Square, Amsterdam.

LEE's feature, which portrays the harrowing life of Shalim, one among some 10,000 rickshaw drivers in the Indian city of Calcutta, has received rave reviews at festivals, and according to LEE Hong-ki, president of Korean independent filmmakers association IndiePD, deals are in the works to release the film in over 30 countries.IDFA is considered one of the top documentary film festivals in the world, along with the Hot Docs Canadian International DocumentaryFestival and the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival in Japan. Its top award for best full-length documentary feature is a sculpture and a cash prize of 12,500 Euros. Winners will be announced Friday, November 26th.
