Actor Shin Ha-kyun, 33, and former pop singer Kim Hak-gyu, 34, were cleared of suspicions of taking Ecstasy pills after tests for the drug in their hair samples produced negative results.

Police said the National Institute of Scientific Investigation confirmed the results in their final tests. Urine samples taken from the two entertainers on Jan. 27 were also negative.

Sin said he is planning to take legal action against the 33-year-old man, identified only by his surname Koo, who reported him to the police.

Phantom Entertainment, Sin's management agency, said that the rumor has dealt a serious blow to the actor's career.

"The company will take strong action against Koo who started the rumor, because even though he doesn't know Shin, he mentioned him to the police, hitting him with an irrevocable blow", the agency said.

The actor and his agency originally considered taking legal action against Internet users who also spread the "groundless rumor", but decided against it because most of them were teenagers.

The rumor began after Koo, a worker at a karaoke bar, was arrested for selling the methamphetamine known as Philopon here, and mentioned Shin and Kim to police during questioning on Jan. 16.
