Actress Ock Ju-hyun's mention of her boyfriend during her acceptance speech for best female actress at the Musical Awards on Monday set off a media scramble to find out more about "Jeff".
Ock won the award for her portrayal of Empress Elisabeth of Austria in the musical "Elisabeth".
Ilgan Sports reported yesterday that Ock and Jeff are the same age and met through friends in 2006. Jeff is thought to be the second son of a newspaper chairman who is the head of the Americas region of the publication.
While collecting her award on Monday night at the National Theater in Jangchung-dong, central Seoul, Ock said, "I came back from Vienna with a big book that I had to read in preparation for the musical. I just want to thank my longtime friend, whom I love dearly, Jeff, who helped me get through it".
In 2006, Ock confirmed she was in a relationship, but this marks the first time she has mentioned the name of her boyfriend in public.
