Festival Dates and Entry Information of 14th Pusan International Film Festival

Entering it's 14th year, Pusan International Film Festival welcomes the talented filmmakers from around the world Pusan International Film Festival announced that the 14th edition of festival will be held from Oct 8th to 16th, 2009.

Also, Pusan International Film Festival has set this year's deadlines of submitting films for official programs as well as of Asian Cinema Fund(ACF), Asian Film Academy(AFA), and Pusan Promotion Plan(PPP).

The below is the detailed information for each.
Film submissions for PIFF2009

1. Eligibility
Pusan International Film Festival accepts features films, documentaries, short films and animation.

Regarding the festival screening format, 35mm, 16mm, HD (only 24p), Digital Beta, Betacam and Digital Video (either PAL or NTSC) are acceptable. However, we do not accept DVC PRO, DVD, and non-24p HD in any case.

The film has to be produced no earlier than Oct 2008. The festival program gives priority to world or international premiere screenings and 35mm formats.

2. How to Apply
Short films have to be postmarked by June 30th and all feature and documentary submissions have to be postmarked by July 30th at the latest.

There is no entry fee. Although there is no strict form provided for submission, it is advised to submit your film through the website; www.piff.org.

The screener has to be provided on DVD or VHS (PAL or NTSC) format. All non-English language films have to be subtitled in English. It is recommended to mark the English title and The Contact information, i.e. email address on the surface of the screener. Please send the screener DVD or VHS along with an information sheet including following details;
- Title of the film (both in English and Original Language)
- Name of Director(s)
- Production Country(ies)
- Production Year
- Screening Format (including Color or B&W)
- Running Time
- Premiere in Pusan (i.e. World Premiere, International Premiere, Asian Premiere, etc)
- Contact Information (including email address and telephone number)
- Synopsis of the film (About one paragraph in English)
- Biography of the director(s) (About one paragraph in English)
All material will not be returned.

Entry for ACF2009
1. Eligibility
1) Script Development Fund
- Eligible Applicants
You must :
- be a writer-director, or a team consisting of a writer and director.
(You can apply even though a producer is not yet attached to the project.)
- have directed at least one short or feature-length film.
- have an Asian Nationality, or (be either of Asian heritage or a non-Asian residing in an Asian country. In both cases, however, your project should contain Asian elements such as Asian stories, characters, themes and setting, etc)
- Eligible Projects
Your project should :
- be a fiction feature of which the final script has not yet been completed.
- be an original script. (Adaptation work of any source material will not be accepted)
Projects not accepted in previous years cannot be resubmitted.
2) Post-Production Fund
- Eligible Applicants
You must :
- be a director.
- have an Asian Nationality, or (be either of Asian heritage or a non-Asian residing in an Asian country. In both cases, however, your project should contain Asian elements such as Asian stories, characters, themes and setting, etc)
- Eligible Projects
Your project should :
- be a fiction feature which has been shot in HD or Super 16, or 35mm
- show that editing and pre-mixing (including score, dialog, ADR and Foley) can be completed prior to coming to Korea
Projects released before or screened on other occasions will not be accepted.
Projects not accepted in previous years previously cannot be resubmitted.

3) Asian Network of Documentary (AND) Fund
- Eligible Applicants
You must :
- be a director.
- have an Asian Nationality, or (be either of Asian heritage or a non-Asian residing in an Asian country. In both cases, however, your project should contain Asian elements such as Asian stories, characters, themes and setting, etc)
- have directed at least one previous documentary. (However, consideration will also be given to a debut project if it is in the post-production phase and you are able to submit a rough cut of it.)
- Eligible Projects
Your project should :
- be either a short or feature length documentary in the production or post-production stage
- be aimed at theatrical release (made-for-TV documentaries are not eligible.)
Projects not accepted in previous years may be resubmitted if there have been substantial changes to the project. The application must be accompanied by a full explanation of the changes.
2. How to Apply

Entry for AFA2009
1. Eligibility
- Who has an UN defined Asian nationality (18 years old or older) seeking one's dream and future in film
- Who has professional experience in directing, cinematography, editing or sound design at least for two short films or has worked as a main staff more than one feature film
- Who can communicate in English
- Who submits all required documents and supporting materials
- Who can diligently attend all programs during the 17 days session
- Who has never attended AFA before
2. How to Apply
AFA 2009 will be held for 17 days from October 1 to 17.
Application period will be from April 1 to May 30, 2009.


Applicants should mail their application package including a completed application form to AFA office with address below. The application form is available at http://afa.piff.org
After mailing your application, please notify AFA in e-mail that you have done so. (afa@piff.org)
- A completed application
- Personal statement should be up to 2 pages in A4. Your statement should have;
- introduction of yourself in relation to film work
- why you wish to attend AFA
- your future plans in film work
- A letter of recommendation: A letter from someone who can certify the applicant's ability and enthusiasm for filmmaking. (including the recommender's phone number and e-mail address)
- Portfolio: VHS or DVD format of your film that you worked as a director, cinematographer or a main member of film crew.
Please let us know if it is NTSC or PAL before you submit your portfolio
If the language of your portfolio is not English, please send us English subtitled version or summit with English script.

Entry for PPP2009
1. Eligibility
- The Project must be for producing a feature-length fiction film
- The Project may be in any stage of production from scenario stage, pre-production, production to post-production, provided that the project completed before the time of PPP 2009 is not eligible.
- Only those projects not fully finances are eligible
2. How to Apply
Those who wish to apply should send the required documents in English as below no later than June 30th.
- Completed application forms
- One half (1/2) page synopsis
- Director's statement in full sentences
- Director profile in full sentences
- Producer profile in full sentences
- Production Company profile in full sentences
- Treatment no longer than eight pages
- DVD (s) or VHS of the project (in event that it is already in production)
- Documents indicating the scope of the tights that the applicant has to the project
Please apply online or download the application form and the regulations for PPP 2009. Submit the completed application form along with all the required materials to PPP team via E-mail and mail by June 30th.
