Local filmmaker Jo Chang-ho has been named Best New Director for his first feature "The Peter Pan Formula" at a film festival in South Africa.

The 27th Durban International Film Festival, June 14-25, saw Jo earn the honor from among the 30 other directors' films submitted for competition.

"I felt like I had put all my energy into the film to the extent that I lost a fingernail, but thanks to the prize, I've gained strength, which I can use for my second movie", Jo said in his acceptance speech during the award ceremony.

Born in 1972, Jo graduated from Seoul Art College Film School and worked as assistant director on director Kim Ki-duk's films. He made his directorial debut in 2001 with the short, "A Little Indian Boy".

Along with Jo, the film's main star On Joo-wan was named Best Leading Actor.

The movie is about a young man who finds his life turned upside down and becomes full of confusion about his future as he struggles to seek a way to solve various problems.

During the festival period, the domestically produced films "Running Boy" ("Marathon"), "A Bittersweet Life" and "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" were screened in the non-competitive section.
