Fireworks fly in MBC's romantic drama starring the spunky Han Chae Young (Sassy Girl, Chun-Hyang) and heartthrob Kang Ji Hwan (Be Strong, Geum Soon). Aired in 2006, Fireworks (not to be confused with the 2000 drama Firework starring Cha In Pyo) presents a humorous and touching story about modern urban love. When age and social expectations begin to catch up, one woman is determined to find romance and happiness on her own terms, and the process is both amusing and inspiring. The drama also features Park Eun Hye (Dae Jang Geum), Yoon Sang Hyun (Marry A Millionaire), and Kim So Yeon (All About Eve).
Headstrong and resourceful, Shin Na Ra (Han Chae Young) once dreamed of becoming a career woman, but she spent the best years of her life supporting her boyfriend Seung Woo (Yoon Sang Hyun). Now he is a successful accountant and she is unemployed and already in her late 20s. Na Ra hopes to marry Seung Woo, but he unexpectedly breaks up with her for another woman, Mi Rae (Park Eun Hye). Na Ra decides to go confront Mi Rae, who is a cosmetics manager, but ends up taking a job at the store instead by pretending to be a recent high school graduate. Just her luck, Na Ra's co-worker In Jae (Kang Ji Hwan) turns out to also be in love with Mi Rae, and the two constantly clash at work. But amidst all the arguing, a new romance is beginning...

The main character of this drama is Shin Nah-rah, a girl approaching thirty who doesn’t have a house, money, a boyfriend, a job, or anyone to support her. All she has are her brains. After living unemployed for a while and struggling to make a living she thinks about getting married because then she can at least work as a housewife. After she gets dumped by her boyfriend, who she was planning on getting married to and living together with, she goes out to find the woman who stole his heart; but while at this woman’s cosmetic company an ad for a sales clerk catches her eye. Having nothing to lose she fakes being her 20 year old little sister, a high school graduate, and starts working as a sales clerk at the company. At work she meets an immature and spoiled guy likes the woman who stole her boyfriend’s heart. The two always snarl at each other and get into disputes but this guy later turns out to be an employer who came into the company to work only because his mother is the vice president of the company; in other words he is the son of a really rich family! A love story starts to grow between the employer who knows nothing except being tough and an employee who knows a lot more than her boss throughout all their disputes and quarrels.
Through a fun, exciting, and exhilarating story about a woman in her marital age getting a job to get back the man she loves we will be able to see how women in the year 2006 live through and fight to succeed in today’s society. This story about a woman who meets a man in the process and their ensuing love story goes back and forth between making you laugh and causing you to cry.

When Shin Na Ra is nearing to her 30s and spent most of her time and resources in helping her fiance's career but breaks up with her for another woman,Shin Na Ra decides to confront and reclaim him back.She apply for a job in a cosmetic company where the girl,Mi Rae (Park Eun Hye) works. As usual,before that fate destined both Na Ra and In Jae (Kang Ji Hwan) to come across each other's path though in the wrong way.They eventually work together and love develops. Nothing to shout about on the storyline except that it does potrays that a young man can still makes a relationship works with a woman whom may be older than him as long as the chemistry and the strong friendship foundation is there.In time,Na Ra learns that there is more to life than returning to her old fiance and she eventually builds up her career and at the same time opens up her wounded heart to In Jae. Acting wise,Chae Young's character is lovable here and I can comprehend her situation when she's nearing her 30s and the frustration that she has to go through.Eun Hye's character is quite mean here but in the end,it reveals the reason and I've to say Ji Hwan is good looking here.His acting and also the rest of the supporting cast are good. Story got a little draggy in the middle though.Worth buying if you're the type that likes this kind of storyline or a fan of Chae Young or Ji Hwan. |
