Former TV Presenter Sohn Mina Finds True Vocation as Novelist

Announcer-turned-writer Sohn Mina published her first novel "Who Drew Mimoja" in July. After quitting her job as a successful TV announcer in 2007, Sohn packed up and headed to Spain to study and wrote a travel book about the South European country that drew a popular response back in Korea.

She traveled through Japan and Argentina and published two more travel books. She also translated "Daughter of the Ganges" by Asha Miro into Korean. She has been living in Paris for the past two years.

"A lot of people are surprised by my transformation, but being a writer is something I always wanted to do", Sohn said. "It just took me a while to get here. I want to live as a writer from now on".

"I think the end is more important than the beginning. I thought hard about how to live a fuller life and the answer for me was contemplation. I thought that if I observed my surroundings more closely and looked deeper inside myself, that process could be transferred naturally into a book", Sohn said.

"Something was tangled up inside me and I lived for a year and a half without knowing what that was", she added. "That was until I wrote the first page of my book. You can say that it was a lonely time for me, but I was able to keep talking to myself".

"Who Drew Mimoja" deals with such weighty issues as fate and human relationships.

"I think love is the fundamental essence of the universe. No matter what kind of novel I write, love will be at the center", Sohn said.

"When you write, you end up paying attention to the smallest of details, and I realize that I matured through that process", she said, adding that she cannot wait until she starts writing her next book.
