Suh Jung (best remembered for her tragic role in Kim Ki Duk's controversial The Isle) offers another remarkable performance Green Chair. In Park Chul Su's (who won acclaim through his Best Artistic Contribution Farewell My Darling at the 1996 Montreal Film Festival) latest ambitious work she plays 30 plus year old Mun Hee that starts a daring relationship with the teenager called Hyun (Shim Ji Ho). While Mun gets caught and sentenced to a slight penalty of several days of community work for indecent behavior, Hyun waits in anticipation for her release. After their reunification the two fall in and out of love as Mun starts to become conscience-stricken about being together with a guy half her age. However, Hyun desperately clings to Mun causing their feelings to ignite once more
Park's unique work of art was selected both as Korean competitor at 2005's Sundance Film Festival (which supports and honors non-Hollywood movie projects) as well as at the 55th Berlin International Film Festival where it was also selected as one of the festival's Panorama section highlights. With Green Chair the auteur director that was also responsible for the script of his latest full-length feature movie skillfully proves that Korea is one of the most active places for engaging art-house presentations on today's international film market.

서른 둘, 열 아홉. 때론, 세상이 인정 못할 사랑이 있다…
처음 본 순간부터 주체할 수 없는 감정의 소용돌이에 빠지게 된 32세의 이혼녀 문희(서정)와 19세의 법적 미성년 현(심지호). 서로의 감정에 솔직했던 두 사람의 관계는 역 원조교제라는 미명 아래, 한낱 사회적인 이슈거리로 내몰리고 만다. 사랑을 부정으로 바라보는 세상의 시선과 현의 미래에 대한 자책, 날카로운 혼돈의 늪에 빠져버린 문희는 현에게 이별을 고한다.

그러나 생각보다 현의 자리가 컸던 것일까, 문희는 견딜 수 없는 외로움을 느끼고, 결국 둘은 문희의 친구 진(오윤홍)의 집에서 함께 지내며 세상의 모든 굴레를 벗어 던진다. 그리고 현의 스무 살 생일 파티, 세상에 둘밖에 없는 듯 춤을 추는 문희와 현. 이 시간이 영원히 계속될 것만 같은데…

I really like this movie. It's a story of a forbidden love. The man is aged 19, in love with a 32 year old woman. She was judged to seduce the kid being a minor. But despite the odds, he stick it up with her until he finally reached aged 20. In the end they are still in love, guy finished college and the woman is getting old, but despite this they are still truly in love with each other. Great film, actors delivered well. Get a copy. Highly recommended....not for kids. |

| This movie really struck me especially the performance of Shim Ji Ho. He has a great potential to be a great actor.He is very daring and very talented. The story talks about forbidden love of both characters. They perform very well and they make the audience move of their performance and actually I was really move. Love the story.. Superb!!! |
