Few people have made as big an impact on Korean cinema as Lee Chang Dong in the last ten years. A former novelist and scriptwriter of masterpieces like To the Starry Island, Lee made his debut in 1997 with Green Fish, one of the best Korean gangster films of the last twenty years. Critical acclaim and countless festival invitations were only the beginning of a pluri-decorated career, which continued to shine with his 1999 film Peppermint Candy, putting the spotlight on amazing actors like Moon So Ri and Sol Kyung Gu. Finally, Oasis was not only important for Lee himself, but for Korean cinema as a whole, as Moon So Ri's unforgettable performance in the film brought her a prize at the Venice Film Festival, along with one for director Lee. After serving as Minister of Culture, Lee is returning to filmmaking with his fourth film, Secret Sunshine, starring Song Kang Ho and Jeon Do Yeon. This is the perfect opportunity to revisit the three films that made him a legend with the Lee Chang Dong Collection boxset.

Green Fish (1997)
After completing his military service, Mak Dong (Han Suk Kyu, Forbidden Quest) finds himself working for local gangster Bae Tae Gon (Moon Sung Keun, Hanbando), introduced by singer Mi Ae (Shim Hye Jin, Hello, Francesca). First surprised by how much his hometown has changed, in a period when Korean urbanization was at its most extreme, Mak Dong slowly gets used to his life as a gangster until the grim reality of the business hits him, and he realizes it's a road with no return. Peppermint Candy (1999)
1999, Kim Young Ho (Sol Kyung Gu, Silmido) walks in the middle of the railroad tracks, planning to end it all. From there begins a gradual look back at all the reasons which led him to this tragic decision, a process that revisits some of the biggest and most painful events of Korea's last twenty years. From the Gwangju Massacre to the IMF Crisis, the film masterfully intertwines Young Ho's struggles with the troubled history of Korea, one of the reasons why this film is considered by many to be one of the finest the country ever produced. Oasis (2002)
He's a former convict, she has cerebral palsy. Two outcasts at an isolated desert oasis. Hong Jong Du (Sol Kyung Gu) just got out of prison for a hit and run accident, and when he tries to contact the family of the victim, he meets Han Kong Ju (Moon So Ri, Legend), the daughter of the man he apparently killed. At first the two feel uncomfortable, but Kong Ju finds quickly he's the only one who truly respects her, despite the warnings from her family. But can they continue to meet with their families interfering all the time? The release includes making of (33 minutes), Oasis in Venice featurette, press screening, and theatrical trailer.

1. 초록물고기

세상을 칼로 다스리려는 남자 배태곤, 세상을 사랑으로 느끼려는 여자 미애, 그리고 세상을 절망으로 살아가는 남자 막동. 막 군대를 제대하고 고향 행 기차에 오른 막동은 우연히 기차 안에서 미애를 만나고 그녀의 장미빛 스카프를 줍게 된다. 일자리를 구하러 다니던 막동은 우연히 한 나이트클럽에서 노래를 부르는 미애와 재회하고, 미애는 조직 폭력배 보스 배태곤의 정부이라는 사실을 알게 된다. 그리고 막동은 그곳에서 일자리를 얻게 되는데...

2. 박하사탕

1999년 현재에서 이야기는 시작된다. 김영호는 자살하기 위해 철로에 오른다. 그때부터 1979년 같은 장소에 있을 때까지 시간의 역순으로 김영호의 인생사가 그려진다. 가구상을 하던 김영호는 한창 돈 잘 벌 때에도 아내의 불륜으로 심사가 뒤틀려 있다. 자신 역시 미스 리와 불륜을 즐긴다. 하지만 결국 재산도 가정도 다 잃는다. 그는 "미친개"란 별명의 가혹한 형사였다. 구타와 물고문의 대가. 그도 처음엔 순진했으나 첫사랑에 실패한 뒤부터 짐승처럼 변한다. 그의 진짜 상처는 광주사태 때 진압군으로 참여하면서 오발로 여고생을 쏘아 죽이면서 시작됐다. 첫사랑이 싹트던 1979년의 강변은 그래도 눈부시게 화사하다. 젊음도 아름답고 인생도 아름답다. 지금으로부터 20년 전, 1979년의 어느 가을이었다.

3. 오아시스

홍종두는 29살에 전과 3범이다. 사람 치어 죽이고 뺑소니친 죄로 2년 반 복역하고 막 출소했다. 식구들은 그 사이 연락도 없이 이사를 해버렸다. 종두가 힘들게 집에 찾아온 뒤에도, 식구들은 그를 반기지 않는다. 형이 중국집 배달원으로 취직시키지만 산만하고 의지도 박약한 종두는 엉뚱한 사고만 낸다. 그 와중에 뺑소니 피해자 가족을 찾아갔다가 사망자의 딸 한공주를 만난다. 뇌성마비 장애자인 공주의 가족들은, 공주의 명의로 분양 받은 장애자 아파트로 입주하면서 공주를 전에 살던 낡은 아파트에 버려두고 간다. 옆집 여자에게 매달 20만원씩 주면서, 공주에게 밥 챙겨주라는 부탁을 남기고. 사회로부터 냉대받기 마찬가지인 종두와 공주는 동병상련처럼 가까워진다.
