[HanCinema's Box Office Review] 2014.11.28 ~ 2014.11.30

"Interstellar" hangs on despite "Big Match"...

908K admissions was enough for the cosmic adventure epic "Interstellar" to secure its fourth week at the top of the table; an uncontested reign that has so far scored the film close to $60M (8.3M admissions) from Korean alone. Even after four straight weeks Nolan's sublime story has remained the undisputed favourite, and is now picking on "Miss Granny" (8.6M) to become the fourth highest-grossing film of the year.

Like "Fashion King - Movie", "Cart", and "Fury", Choi Ho's newly released action flick "Big Match" found Christopher Nolan's spacey success story immovable and greedy. "Big Match" came within 480K tickets of threatening "Interstellar" (the closest shave this stub-guzzling Gargantuan has had to endure), but only managed to nab 20% of the box office pie from the 627 screenings it was given.

Last week's number two, David Ayer's "Fury" staring Brad Pitt, claimed 310K (14.5%) over 481 screens to occupy third (pushing it over a million admissions), while "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" lost ground to Ayer's WWII drama by earning the support of just 137K (6.2%). "Fury" and "The Hunger Games" both came out last week and open to equal interest, but presently it's Pitt with the lead on Lawrence(s).

The stupefying sequel "Dumb and Dumber To" (with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels playing their special parts) opened in fifth with 98K (4.4%), followed by the wholehearted documentary "My Love, Don't Cross That River" by Jin Mo-young. Jin's 85-minute feature follows a couple known as the '100-year-old lovebirds' as they live a simple life of traditional and love, while confronting the death that hovers over their admirable 76-year marriage. The film earned the attent

Boo Ji-young's drama "Cart" slipped three places to seventh (40K - 1.7%), trailed by the British comedy drama "Hector and the Search for Happiness" with 37K (1.6%). Kim Deok-soo's "Dad for Rent" entered the fray last weekend in fifth, but has since fallen four places to ninth with just 13K here to take to the bank. Lastly, the Chinese animated adventure "Boonie Bears: To the Rescue" climbed into tenth with 12K to close the door on November, 2014.
