[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Lookout" Episodes 11-12

Our crime fighting team was cool as a facade, but now as we delve further into their backstories, they become more relatable, and that gives "Lookout" the edge that it needed.

Although we have yet to delve into Kyeong-soo's past, Bo-mi, the reticent CCTV expert, has her story exposed to her teammates, leaving her raw and more determined than ever to get to the bottom of her case. The support from her team is exactly what she needs as they delve into the case of her family's murder that involves international politics and, of course, the resident crooked prosecutors and lawyers, Chief Yoon and Attorney Oh. Together the trio not only digs into Bo-mi's past, but into Do-han's identity, deciding as a team not to trust their "Leader" and look into him to see what they've really gotten themselves into. Do-han is no fool and quickly catches on. His brilliance keeps him one step ahead, but the fun of this is that we know he will eventually be caught and either become the trio's enemy, or band together with them to right the wrongs of the greedy and powerful.

 

As for creepy, creepy high school killer Si-wan, he feels invincible with his father at his back and his mother standing guard. However, his mom seems to know what a scary human being her son is. I wonder how long it will take for her to come clean and put that kid behind bars. This would also mean taking arms against her husband, which she may not be willing to do.

Part of what made this pair of episodes so effective was the direction by "Two Weeks" director Son Hyeong-seok. What made the action so successful in "Two Weeks" is also working here for "Lookout" -- clean shooting that isn't jumpy and conveys action without causing headaches or visual confusion. This especially worked for Bo-mi's flashbacks to the murder of her family and the especially tragic moment when she watched her sister get dragged away.

"Lookout" doesn't seem to slow down, so lets keep going to episodes 13 and 14 where I'm sure the trio will face more difficulties and Do-han will have to continue to fight his conscience in order to enact his revenge.
