On February 25^th 1942, 100,000 people bared witness to an unidentified object hovering over L.A. Despite a barrage of anti-aircraft fire the strange object remained. Now, in 2011 Jonathan Liebesman brings us "Battle: Los Angeles", a sci-fi action thriller that is currently topping the Korea box office with 453,991 tickets sold in its first week.

"Black Swan" is Darren Aronofsky's fifth feature film as a director and his latest release is sitting pretty at number two this week. The film has had over a million viewers so far and is likely to continue its success next week. At number three is the highest Korean film of the week "Shotgun Love". Staring Im Chang-jeong and Kim Gyoo-ri-I, the film is a comedy about a home shopping food model that meets a lingerie model that he secretly loved. The film is directed by Jeong Woo-cheol and has only managed 140,683 thus far. At number four is "Late Blossom", surprisingly still hanging in there with just under a million total admissions.

The brilliantly made "Rango" is at number five; the film has drawn in just 116,477 viewers this week. The film has been criticised for failing to meet the high expectations set for the film before its release. The biographical sports drama "The Fighter" is next, the film was nominated for six Academy Awards and won two (Best Supporting Actor and Actress). The film centres on the boxer "Irish" Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and his half-brother Dicky Eklund (Christian Bale). Matt Damon and Emily Blunt star in "The Adjustment Bureau" (written and directed by George Nolfi). The sci-fi thriller has racked in 42,162 in tickets this week, just missing out on overtaking "Children...". The big Korean hit of the year "Detective K" is still lingering in the charts. This period comedy is approaching 5 million tickets sold. "The King's Speech" received twelve Oscar nominations, which is more than any other film. It won four including best picture, actor and director. We will have to wait until next week to see if this big Oscar winner has a significant impact on the Korean charts.
