[HanCinema's Film Review] Korean Weekend Box Office 2011.08.26 ~ 2011.08.28

Korean Weekend Box Office (2011.08-26~2011.08.28)

With the 4 million mark well and truly passed, Kim Han-min's "Arrow, The Ultimate Weapon" is looking good at the top of the pile. The blockbuster added 706,657 to its impressive total, outshining the pack in a strong play for one of the summer's top crowd pleasers. "Sector 7" was removed from the top ten this week, much to its lackluster plot and heavy reliance on visuals over quality story telling.

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is also still behind at number two with 495,153 admissions, bringing its total just under 2 million. Ahn Sang-hoon's "Blind" was released the same week as "Arrow, The Ultimate Weapon" but has struggled to compete with its great success. Still, the film scored an additional 257,752 admissions this past weekend, leaving its total at just shy of 2 million. The Korean animation "Leafie, A Hen Into The Wild" jumps up a spot to claim fourth with 137,657 as it too knocks on the door of 2 million total admissions.

"The Smurfs" finds itself at five and sitting on a nelson while "Three Idiots" marks the drop-off as it only claimed a very modest 47,187 admissions. Troy Nixey's "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" is a new entry to the list but not to the rest of world. This horror/thriller inclusion might be a cry for a bit of diversity in the genres Koreans have had to swallow over the past two months.

Next is "Quick" still sticking around and looking good with a total of 3,105,015 admissions. The wolf pack is back in "The Hangover Part II" stealing 29,665 tickets from the bigger films of the week and last is Makoto Shinkai's "Children who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below", appealing to moviegoers with its sharp visuals and lovable characters.
