YesAsia Editorial Description
Bride From Hanoi is a very special, two-part K-Drama, filmed to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam war. It tells the story of Eun Woo (Lee Dong Uk), a Korean doctor who meets and falls in love with Tib, a half-Korean, half-Vietnamese woman (played by Kim Ok Bin) whilst in Vietnam. However, Tib's sister is opposed to the match, as she was hurt by a Korean man in the past, and so persuades Tib to break off the relationship.
Eun Woo returns to Korea broken hearted, only for his older brother Sok Woo (Lee Won Jong) to head off to Vietnam in search of a bride himself. But when he returns with a young woman on his arm, Eun Woo is shocked to discover that it is Tib!
Bride from Hanoi won in the Series - Special category at the 40th Houston Film Festival.

i loved it very much
| i've watched this twice not just because of the storyline but well have to admit it , it's all because of LEE DONG WOOK, this guy is making me crazy... i'm head over heels in love with this good and superb actor. I'm trying to collect his old movies now. I started liking him in The Carousel or sounds like that but more in MY GIRL, gosh... Yesasia, please release The perfect couple for me, ok? About the story, i liked it very much , for a change to a common korean storylines, that there's cancer, adopted son/daughter, etc. at least it's only the mother who has hypertension and not cancer, huh! It's worth buying, believe me! You'll get to see Vietnam too for free! |

Commemorative K-Drama "Bride From Hanoi" Yet Another K-Classic Greetings From Singapore and Wishing One & All A Happy & Prosperous Year Ahead 2007 It is commendable that SBS lends a helping hand and shares its talents by producing this special 2-part series shot in Hanoi and Korea to commemorate the end of the Vietnam War, its 30th Anniversary a collaborative project perhaps which includes Vietnamese cast. Sincerely hope that in the near future such projects would also extend to other Asian countries by helping us tell our stories as I believe that K-Dramas have set the industry standards in drama/movie productions. Besides the beautiful locations shooting on the landmarks of Hanoi, the Korean cast also made efforts to learn to speak the Vietnamese language too ! The philosophy/life skill imparted in this storyline is I discovered - "marriage is about buying a pair of shoes: you should have the right to choose a pair you feel comfortable and not to be over duly concerned about how people feel about it". I'm deeply impressed as usual by K-Drama scripts, the writer whose hidden message and impact to me is not so much on the romance between the lead actor and lead actress but rather the impact of their romance on the lead actor's elder brother and his sweetheart love - a girl from the same hometown and better qualified than the elder brother who was a farmer. The exciting part is both brothers "fell for the same Vietnamese girl" and when the elder brother returned to Korea with a future Hanoi bride after attending a matchmaking programme organised by the Korean government, the younger doctor brother was shocked to see his Hanoi girlfriend whom he lost contact due to man-made circumstances.................... The elder brother had yet to consummate their marriage but the trip to Korea was regarded more of an exploratory trip for the future bride to consider marrying him. Her apprearance created tension to all and enabled the elder brother's sweetheart to re-discover the wholesome character of the elder brother who had always put her in his heart until he had to give in to their mother's persistent pressures to find a spouse. Happy ending for both brothers as elder brother's perpetual sweetheart began to see him from a human perspective rather than by qualifications (case of a woman marrying down) and through the Hanoi Bride's "counselling" she managed to gather her courage/will to accept him while the younger doctor brother returned to Hanoi to look for his "lost pair of shoes" !(case of a man marrying a woman of lower social status as his mother initially objected strongly to this marriage as she preferred his lady doctor colleague - scolding his younger son for not choosing a diamond in front of him ! I find that I can connect very well with the traditional values, thoughts, mindsets and concerns aired by the parents' characters which mirros the way we also think when choosing a life partner to an extent at least for our generation. Please watch when you have the chance ! Best regards, Wee Fong-Fong (Miss) Singapore 18 Jan 2007 |

Not too bad...
|
it's nice to see a different style though the story is a little typical of show of a guy-LJS who met and fell in love with a Vietnamese girl-KOB when he was working there and then left the country and only to meet again a year later when his brother ordred a mail-order bride which happens to be her. KOB had potrayed well as a convincing vietnamese girl and her fluent in the language makes it more realistic to the show as well. |

The story is ok. Korean married to a vietnamese. A sister trying to stop a younger sister in committing the same mistake she had. Its also about a mail to order bride. Quite amusing but i believe it could be better. So glad its only 2 episode, otherwise, i could have fallen asleep. |

Ok..
| My husband is Korean, I am Vietnamese so we thought this would be perfect! My husband liked it, but since he's not writing the review, I get to write what I thought! :) I didn't like it very much. I didn't like the characters - they did not seem to work well together - it was not convincing to me. The bride girl herself spoke horrible Vietnamese - if you would call it that - it was completely shredded and not one word sounded close to being Vietnamese (but then I know she is Korean and must have been hard for her). The plot itself was simple and easy to understand. I wouldn't really recommend this DVD as it was slow and the characters were not too great. |
