Soonjung instantly made a star out of its leading actress, Gyu Hye Sun (Seo Dong Yo) - all credits go to the actress for dishing out perfect dialect that brought much realism to her character. Gyu plays a Chinese girl of Korean descent who marries a native Korean. Being the only outsider in her marriage, she endures a chain of mistreatment and hardship; but through it all, she discovers the true meaning of family and love. A warm sense of multiculturalism and open-mindedness resonate throughout the drama, providing a perfect atmosphere for the approaching holiday season.

Life for Chinese-born Korean Yang Gook Hwa (Gyu Hye Sun) isn't so dandy in the so-called Land of Morning Calm. Discrimination and prejudice bring friction between her and Hong Woo Kyung (Lee Min Woo) as Woo Kyung's mother tries to destroy their relationship. Things are not so different when Gook Hwa meets her ultimate prince charming, Park Yoon Hu (Seo Ji Suk, Ireland), who boldly decides to marry her. From physical and verbal abuse to throwing chili powder at Gook Hwa's face, Yoon Hu's mother displays all the ugliness that Gook Hwa can bear. Can Gook Hwa survive through the marriage? 19歲的韓僑梁菊花因為家貧所以從中國延邊嫁到韓國，可是，菊花來到首爾前，未婚夫就因交通意外身亡。善良的菊花不想回延邊加重家人的負擔，決定在首爾打工寄錢回鄉。在未婚夫侄子洪羽慶的介紹下，菊花到他工作的公司當老闆兒子朴允侯的秘書。允侯是那公司的太子爺，但對工作非常嚴格，因此秘書不停轉換。菊花因一次失誤而被辭退，轉當該公司的清潔工。允侯在公司與菊花的相處中，漸漸被菊花那樂觀開朗、堅毅不屈的性格所吸引，一段王子與灰姑娘的愛情故事亦由此而展開……

This drama portrays the life journey of an upbeat and cheerful ethnic Korean girl, Kuk-hwa, from China who comes to Korea to get married and start her own family with her own efforts. By overcoming hardships with a smile and wisdom, she teaches the meaning of innocence in the era when love is determined by too many preconditions. The role of the modest and honest guy Hong Woo-kyung, who works at telecom company UT, is played by Lee Min-woo, while the ill-mannered Yoon-hu, a scion of a conglomerate, is portrayed by Seo Ji-suk. The cast also includes several famous middle-aged actors: Shin Koo, who plays the oldest person in Hong's family, and Kang Nam-kil and Kim Mi-kyung, who play Woo-kyung's parents. Kang Seok-woo appears in a comic role of Shin's second son as a third-class bar singer. Adding to the cheerful atmosphere of the series is Cho Jung-rin, who plays Woo-kyung's younger sister. Han Jin-hee and Yoon Yeo-jung appear as Yoon-hu's family.
