Starting next week, the 2012 Korea Grand Sale Festival will offer foreign visitors up to 50 percent discounts in Korea's biggest retail shops in Seoul and other major cities.
From next Monday through Feb. 29, more than 22,000 shops including Shinsegae, Hyundai and Lotte department stores, Forever21, Ssamjigil, Doota, Lotte Mart and duty-free shops will feature 10 to 50 percent discounts on their items for all foreign customers. Shoppers will need to present their passports.
The proceeds will be donated to support multicultural families living in Korea, including programs that help immigrant women from multicultural families visit their hometowns, a scholarship fund for children from multicultural families and medical-support funds.
Hoping to evolve into more than a shopping festival, the Korea Grand Sale, organized by the Visit Korea Committee, will hold various cultural events during the 52-day festival period, including concerts, Korean Wave star-signing events and raffles.
A special welcoming event at Incheon International Airport will be held throughout next week in which visitors can participate in a guaranteed-win lottery event offering a variety of prizes. Korean Wave stars including Kim Tae-hui, Lee Joong-gi and Kim Rae-won will make appearances at Doota Shopping Mall in Dongdaemun, northern Seoul, to meet fans.
