| Stylish designer suits, expensive cars, tattoos all over, lots of money, and license to do anything as long as it benefits the "family" - judging from the Korean gangster films shown over the years, you'd think being a gangster was the best profession in the world. Gangster comedy Hotel M: Gangster's Last Draw presents a slightly different picture. After the family goes through some restructuring, Dae Haeng (Kim Suk Hoon, So Cute) and his associates are left with one last chance: extort a large sum of cash from the owners of a countryside hotel. But when spunky owner Min Ah (Kim Sung Eun, Strange Woman, Strange Man) finds out what their plan is, their life becomes hell on earth.
With its unique setup, Hotel M: Gangster's Last Draw stands out from recent efforts in the genre which usually focus on the same themes. And looking at director Choi Sung Cheol's resume, it's easy to see why. Director Choi was previously the assistant director for the super-hit My Sassy Girl and Kim Ha Neul's Too Beautiful to Lie, two irreverent comedies banking on interesting characters first, and genre conventions later. Kim Suk Hoon returns to films after 2004's So Cute, which marked a big change from his older roles in action films like Tube. Starring alongside him is Kim Sung Eun, who found stardom in the extremely popular KBS daily drama Strange Man, Strange Woman.
