I got your back!

Pop star Lee Hyo-ri and actress Jun Ji-hyun worship has hit an all-time low. Plastic surgeons are now lifting the spirits and backsides of Korean women who want something of theirs that can't easily be bought off the shelves - their butts.
A new body enhancement procedure called "hip-up" gives flat buttocks more spring and shape, helping some to achieve the kind of hour-glass figures that have made Hyo-ri and Ji-hyun the preeminent sex symbols of our generation.

"Korean's conception of beauty has always been focused on the face, but the body is becoming more the center of attention with the advent of the 'mom-jjang' phenomenon", said Dr. Lee Hyoun-seung, referring to the recent hard-body fetish and work-out trend among average citizens. Lee, a dermatologist, performs hip-up for Goowon Saesang, a popular cooperative of plastic surgery and dermatology clinics in Seoul.

"Korean women are now into more Westernized body types: thin waists, big hips, toned thighs. That is the new ideal", he said.

Flat buttocks have been considered the bane of countless Koreans' existence - for both men and women - but until recent, they have had no other recourse than to curse fate and bad genes.

Hip-up is a relatively simple operation that was first developed in Europe and was introduced into the Korean plastic surgery circle about a year and a half ago. It is still largely unknown compared to other beauty enhancement procedures, but a growing number of doctors are offering hip-up, alongside more common procedures such liposuction, as word spreads over the internet.

Many women attend Dr. Lee's consultation waving a full body-shot of their favorite stars. Lately, they cite a popular shampoo ad capturing a profile of Jun Ji-hyun lithely stretched out over a bicycle. "They come into my office and say, 'I want to look like that,'" said Lee.

She described the procedure as a variation of the conventional face-lift, which utilizes ultra-thin threads to gather and pull-up fat tissues underneath the skin.

"Basically, I use a needle and thread to sculpt the area's soft body tissues into a conic shape. The plain becomes a kind of a mountain", she said.

Aside from giving the buttock a fuller look, the effects of hip-up may be augmented with additional fat removal from the waist and thighs.

The entire procedure takes only about an hour and a half. "They just walk out", though patients experience soreness for up to two to four weeks. As with all work done on the body, she said a new figure is best maintained through regular exercise and balanced diet.

Plastic surgery has become common with men but so far, Dr. Lee knows of no males who have undergone this procedure.

Hip-up costs around 2 million won, a sum at least one anonymous netizen seem to think was negligible considering the stakes: "I think Hyo-ri has the best butt. I would kill to have a butt like that. I really would".
