The Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival (SICAF) will take place for the 12th time May 21-25 in Seoul. Ahead of its opening, SICAF is now accepting entries for the International Digital Cartoon Competition through Feb. 28.
The largest of its kind in Asia, SICAF is composed of four parts: International Digital Cartoon Competition; Cartoon and Animation Exhibition; Animated Film Festival; and SICAF Promotional Plan, a marketplace for cartoon/animation industries.
The International Digital Cartoon Competition, held for the third time this year, encourages artists to participate, free of charge.
In order to qualify, cartoons or comics must be viewable in digital format. The Competition includes three categories: Web-Cartoon, Web-Comics and Digital Illustration.
Note that only original, unpublished works with no history of previous awards, competition selection or commercial use will be accepted. Additionally, the entrant must be the copyright holder of the submitted piece.
Visit the Festival's Web site Open the link (Korean and English) for entry forms and more information. Inquiries can be directed via phone (02) 3455-8407.
A unique feature of the Competition is that Internet users can contribute to the final results. After the preliminaries, the finalists' works will be open to the public online. Internet users can vote for their favorite piece, and the outcome will be considered for the awards.
Final results of the Competition will be posted on the Web site April 23. Final selections will be exhibited during the actual festival. A total of $35,000 are allotted for 13 awards: Grand Prize ($10,000), Gold Prize ($5,000), three Silver Prizes ($3,000), three Bronze Prizes ($2,000), Netizen's Choice ($1,000) and four Jury's Special Prizes ($1,000)
Sohn Ki-hwan, SICAF President of Executive Committee, said, "We expect the SICAF International Digital Cartoon Competition will reinvigorate the international Digital Cartoon industry by offering an opportunity to discover new promising digital cartoon contents worldwide. As the IT powerhouse in the world, Korea also wishes to lead the digital cartoons industry in the future".
