The international academic conference, "Traditional Culture and Cultural Content" is to be held on Nov. 9, 2 PM, at the Seminar Room, third floor of Arco Gallery in Daehakro, Seoul. It will be hosted by Hanyang University's Cultural Content Program and sponsored by KOCCA.
Keynote speakers include Yasuhiro Takeda, Japanese animation director and founding member of Gainax, which is well-known for the series Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Chen Wei dong, CEO of China's biggest comics company Chunjin Singae Comic corporation, which have exported the so-called "four masterpieces" of China, namely The Three Kingdoms, The Water Margin, Journey to the West, and A Dream of Red Mansions, in about 80 comic book episodes.
Yasuhiro will examine in his keynote, "Mania Culture and Cultural Content Strategies", the positive effect of Japan's fanboy culture, also called "otaku", on the Japanese animation market.
Chen Wei dong will present in his keynote the "Chinese Traditional Culture and Cultural Content Strategies", tackling the traditional Chinese culture that has rich cultural archetypal resources.
Also, Shim, Seung-Gu, professor at the Korea National Sport University, will present a keynote titled "A Case Study on Cultural Content Strategies using Korean Cultural Archetypes".
After the keynotes, Seong Ha-Mook, SBS producer, Park, In-Ha, professor at Chungkang College of Cultural Industries, and Yu, Dong-Hwan, professor at Hoseo University will lead a panel discussion. The conference will also be joined by Takami Akai, producer of the famous game Princess Maker, and his production team.
"Although the three countries' cultures seem to have distinct similarities, each one is essentially unique", said a representative from the conference's organizing committee. "This academic conference will be an opportunity to understand the cultural archetypes of the three cultures and produce common strategies to promote cultural contents".
