A Tokyo-based Korean cultural center based is to hold a special festival to feature Korean food and art in the late afternoon on Thursday (June 21).
The function, titled "Experience! The taste and style of Korean culture!", will take place in a hotel in Daiba, Tokyo, with the special attendance of First Lady Akie Abe, 53, wife of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Participants will be able to enjoy Korean traditional music performances --gayageum (12-stringed zither), haegeum (two-stringed zither), daegeum (large bamboo flute) concerts from the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts and an amgomu (three drum dance) concert from the Foundation for the Preservation of Cultural Properties. A Hanbok fashion show, featuring both traditional and modern Korean attire, will also brighten up the show.
"This will be a special event to bridge the gap between the two nations and exchange culture, especially with the attendance of the Japanese first lady who has long expressed an interest in Korean culture", an official at the Korean Cultural Center said.
Akie Abe surprised Koreans by revealing she's also an ardent fan of Korean movies and TV dramas.
