The Japanese media, including such leading dailies as Nikkan Sports and Sankei Sports, showed great interest in Lee Byung-hun's visit to Japan to promote his latest movie "A Bittersweet Life". Lee held a press conference at the premiere of his movie on April 7 at the Tokyo Isetan Department Store.

Sankei Sports reported on April 8 that some 300 reporters, 30 TV cameras and 150 camera journalists competed to cover the press conference. The newspaper wrote that Lee, who was wearing a black suit, said "A Bittersweet Life' was an important work in his acting career. Lee also told the journalists how the movie's director Kim Jee-woon stood in for the actor in a close-up scene requiring him to put sugar in coffee, because Lee kept making mistakes.

Nikkan Sports quoted Lee as saying, "I am happy to be able to present my new movie to the Japanese audience so soon". The newspaper also reported on Lee's meeting with one thousand Japanese fans, and said that some 100 security guards were deployed in Narita Airport the day Lee arrived in Japan. According to the newspaper, Lee was greeted by over 1,200 fans, and the price of tickets to his movie premiere surpassed 400,000 yen at one point on an online auction site.
