Jeju Peaks to Require Booking in Advance

Visitors to Jeju Island's UNESCO World Heritage sites of Mt. Halla and Seongsan Sunrise Peak will have to book in advance from next year to prevent overcrowding.

The Jeju provincial government on Monday said it made the decision at the recommendation of 25 experts tasked with figuring out how to protect the popular resort island.

It is part of measures to conserve the island's scenic natural treasures as a massive increase in visitors is taking its toll.

How many people will be allowed on the peaks every day remains to be figured out.

The booking system will later be expanded to other popular attractions.
