[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Strong Family" Episodes 1-2

2017/02/20 | | Permalink

Late night situation comedies are apparently all the rage these days, which is where "Strong Family" comes from. It's a fairly standard set-up. There's the dad, Cheol-il (played by Park Hyeok-kwon). He had ambition once, but now sits around the house in a goofy red tracksuit on his days off. There's the mom, Ra-yeon (played by Park Seon-yeong), who struggles to feel pretty in an ugly world. There's the daughter, Ik-hee (played by Kim Ji-min) who desperately wishes she was special. And that's what they all fight against. The encroaching dread of normalcy...More

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Hwarang" Episode 18

That weight will either bring them together or rip them apart.

The clearest example of the inherited burden of politics is in Ban-ryu whose adopted father pushes him to kill and trick to attain power through money and gained status...More

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People" Episode 7

2017/02/20 | | Permalink

Gonghwa (played by Lee Honey) is a royal consort, although she spends most of this episode gallavanting around with Gil-dong. The only royalist plot developments happen near the end. Gonghwa is also the presumed love interest to Gil-dong, although Ga-ryeong (played by Chae Soo-bin) also makes a play for his affections, mostly by snickering in the background. Ga-ryeong is the presumed true love interest, although to date Gonghwa has been much more helpful when it comes to Gil-dong's actual goals...More
