Film director Kang Woo-suk publicly apologized to actors Choi Min-sik and Song Kang-ho in response to their demand for an apology that was published on June 29 at 10 a.m. through the press. Kang had stirred controversy by disclosing the real names of Choi and Kang to the media while citing examples of some actors' demands for shares of profits at movie production companies.

In his written apology, Kang said, "I sincerely regret that the real names of actors Choi Min-sik and Song Kang-ho were unintentionally disclosed to the public, damaging their reputations as public figures. This one letter will not be enough to make up for the damage, but I sincerely apologize".

Kang also wrote that he raised issues with the local movie industry in the first place to cooperatively solve the industry's structural problems and pave the way for the sustained growth of the Korean movie industry, and had never stopped working to that end. "The two actors [Choi and Song] have contributed greatly to the local movie industry and will contribute even more in the future. They were the ones who shared all the joys and sorrows of Korean movies. That is why I am willing to take any responsibility", wrote Kang.

In conclusion, Kang said he was worried that the original purpose of reviving the local movie industry through cooperation had been distorted by personal feelings and grudges, and that he wished that all filmmakers and actors would work together in wisely solving the problems of the Korean film industry and laying a solid foundation for future generations.

Prior to sending his message to the press, Kang also apologized during an interview with KBS News 9 reporters. During the interview's closing remarks, KBS News 9 announcer Hong Ki-sup said, "Filmmaker Kang Woo-suk told KBS reporters that he apologizes for inadvertently damaging the reputation of actors Choi Min-sik and Song Kang-ho by disclosing their real names".
