In addition to the support provided for commercial films, KOFIC operates a variety of film promotion programs including those for low-budget art films, independent films, short films, and animation films.
The feature and animation films scenario contests held by KOFIC serve as a golden opportunity for new writers to display their talents. In addition, KOFIC's support for digital films has continuously increased.
Unlike feature films in which the investment is recouped, KOFIC provides funds for independent and short films in the form of grants.
When the size of the Korean film industry is taken into account, it becomes evident that, compared to other countries, Korea has many film related educational organizations. As a form of educational support, KOFIC uses some of the funds available in the budget to provide support for the post-production of the films of those students attending such educational organizations.
In addition, KOFIC provides support for the establishment of art house theaters across the nation so as to increase the screening of low-budget artistic and short films.
