Korea-China Jointly Declare 2012 as Year of Friendship

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and China, and both countries' culture ministries have jointly declared the year 2012 as the Korea-China Year of Friendship.
Around 200 people from both countries attended an opening ceremony at the National Museum of Korea on Tuesday.

[Interview : Kwak Young-jin, Vice Minister Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports] "Since our beginning of diplomatic relations in 1992, Korea and China have had many exchanges in economic and cultural areas. I hope we can further our mutual understanding in next 20 years".

[Interview : Wang Chen, Director of Asia Division Ministry of Culture of People's Republic of China] "There is an expression in China, that something with 20 years' history, signifies maturity. I think the relations between Korea and China also matured during the past two decades".

[Reporter : Park Ji-won] "Marking the Korea-China Year of Friendship, diverse cultural events and exchange programs between the two countries will follow throughout this year".

Meanwhile, the Korean Culture and Information Service has welcomed some 16 Chinese journalists from different regions of China, such as Shanghai and Chongqing, to visit Korea for about a week to mark the 20th anniversary of the diplomatic relations.
During their stay, they are touring Korea's representative tourist spots, including the National Museum of Korea.

[Interview : Maggie Tian, Reporter Chongqing Broadcasting Group] "During my stay in Korea, I felt we share many things, such as moral values and perspectives on families, which are common in Asian culture".

The closing ceremony wrapping up this special year of friendship between the two countries will take place in Beijing, China this November.
