The City of Violence", released on May 25 in the Republic of Korea, is being distributed by the major American film distribution company, the Weinstein Company. "
The City of Violence" also draws attention in that its director Ryu Seung-wan plays the protagonist in the film.

The City of Violence" in the Cannes Film Festival and made a contract to buy the film".
The Weinstein Company was established by the brothers Harvey and Bob Weinstein on September in 2005. They became independent from the major Hollywood film company Miramax.
Before this export,
The City of Violence was also exported to other 20 countries in Asia, Europe, and South America.
This showed the possibility of Korean action films to advance into the world.
In spite of competition from foreign films like the Da Vinci Code and Mission Impossible III,
The City of Violence showed a good start as 73,000 people saw the movie in 258 screens on the first day of its releasing in South Korea.

The City of Violence starts as one man (the main character) visits his hometown after hearing his friend's sudden death. In his hometown, he meets his other friends and realizes something is wrong about his friend's death. So, he and his friend start to examine their friend's death and find that the friend's death is related their hometown's development.
