Pucca, the character of the youngest daughter in Georyong Chinese Restaurant, has been developed into a video game.
VOOZ (CEO: Kim, Bu-Kyung) and Studio 9 (CEO: Choi, Dong-Shin) sealed an agreement to co-develop a video game using the character Pucca. Once released in the market, it will be the first Korean character video game.
The game production is being participated in by both VOOZ and Studio 9. Studio 9 will undertake the planning, development, and publishing of the video game in Korea and abroad, while VOOZ will take charge of the character, graphic, and foreign co-publishing parts. The two hope to create synergy by combining those areas in which each company has strong advantages.
"We believe that this co-production agreement can be considered a proof that we have laid the foundation for the Korean OSMU characters' advancement into the global market", said Kim, Bu-Kyung, CEO of VOOZ. "We expect to sell over 1 million copies of the video game and to record about US$10M in sales".
"VOOZ's Pucca has already been exported to 150 countries globally, including countries in North America and Europe, and this cooperation between the two companies will give birth to a successful case of Korean character video games' advancement into the foreign market", said Kim, Sung-Hoon, Executive Director of Studio 9's Development Department. "We will strive to achieve that goal".
The Pucca multiplatform video game is scheduled to be simultaneously released in Korea, Europe, the U.S.A., and other parts of the world in 2009.
Pucca had already been developed into an online racing game, Pucca Racing, a combination of Pucca and a motorcycle racing game, after VOOZ joined hands with Graviti. Having started open beta testing last August, Pucca Racing is now being serviced via Buddy-Buddy Channeling Service.
