Korean Independent Cinema due in Tokyo

The fourth Korean Independent Cinema, an annual event aimed at introducing Korean independent films to the Japanese movie market, will open at Image Forum Theater in Shibuya, Tokyo, on Aug. 25 and run until Aug. 31.

A total of 34 independent films will be screened. The line-up will include two drama films, "Let's Finish" by Whang Cheol-mean and "Far Away" by Kim Sam-ryeok, as well as a documentary film, "Our School", by Kim Myeong-joon. Thirty-one animations will also be screened.

A discussion session with directors Kim Myeong-joon, Kim Sam-ryeok and Yoon Seong-ho, hosted by film critic Tony Rayns, will take place on Aug. 25.

"The Korean Film Council decided to sponsor the event because Image Forum Theater has served as an open venue for the entrance of Korean independent movies into the Japanese movie market for four years", said an official from the council.
