Korean iron fists charm the Americans

Eon Kid, a Korean animation, is taking the airwave TV channels in the U.S. by storm.

Design Storm (CEO: Sohn, Jeong-Sook) announced last October 23 that Eon Kid, whose broadcast began at the end of last month on Kids WB!, an affiliate channel of Warner Bros., has been at the top of the U.S. airwave TC animations ratings chart for five consecutive weeks now.

Among the more than 40 animations produced by some of the leading broadcasting companies in the world (Toon Disney/Jetix, DIC/CBS, Cubo/NBC), Eon Kid is best loved by young viewers due to its unique "Full-3D Robotic and Action Adventure" concept.

Aired as Iron Kid on KBS2 TV last year, Eon Kid is a 100% Korean production from its planning to its post-production matters, and including its scenario. It was chosen by Korea Culture and Content Agency (KOCCA, CEO: Ko, Seok-Man) as a 2003 Star Project and received top ratings in Spain, Italy, and other European countries.

Owing to its high ratings, various Eon Kid character goods are being developed. Playmates, the major U.S. toy company in charge of Eon Kid's character business, will release Eon Kid character goods in some 200 branches of Walmart and Toys'R'Us this coming January. "Due to the animation's recent explosive popularity, its character goods' release date has been advanced from next spring to January", said Jeong, Dae-Sik, a producer at Design Storm. "The character goods will also be the biggest among the Korean animation toys".
